Would you recommend anyone thinking about teaching to train with The Three Rivers Teaching School?
Doing my Initial Teacher Training with the 3RTS School Direct programme has been great - I have felt like the level of support and training we have had has been excellent, having had everything the university PGCE students receive plus extra training and support within school. Being a part of a smaller SD group has meant I have felt well supported by peers. Doing a SD programme also make your training feel more personal, as you know your placement schools from the beginning. The communication with and support from school professional tutors and subject mentors is available from day one.

What have you thought about the training at The Three Rivers Teaching School Alliance?
Great opportunity to reflect on our teaching practice with the other ITTs in the alliance.
The sessions on managing your time and prioritising, and what is needed in a lesson plan as the theory discussed in these sessions were very useful in practice.
What would you say to anyone thinking about teaching to train with The Three Rivers Teaching School?
I knew my training year was going to be very challenging and so it was important to choose a provider who would support me through what could be a difficult year. I'm really glad I chose to train with 3 Rivers with George Stephenson High School as my host school. The support I received at King Edward VI and at George Stephenson has been amazing and I have made friends for life in the form of staff I have worked with and other trainee teachers. I would recommend training with 3RTS to anyone looking to train to be a secondary teacher.

What have you thought about the training at The Three Rivers Teaching School?
The school based training sessions have been much more helpful than the university sessions, because they are more interactive and include more techniques that can be included straight away in the classroom.
I remember finding the seating plans session at the beginning of the year as being really useful as it was something I didn't think about before, and it really made me recognise the importance of relationships. I also found the sessions on lesson planning, questioning and time management sessions that I regularly looked back on throughout the year to help me with my teaching.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about training with The Three Rivers Teaching School Alliance?
Training to teach through the 3RTS programme gave extra and effective training that supplement the PGCE course well. The group of schools are all very good and knowing what schools you are going to be in early is very helpful.

Why did you want to come into teaching?
I always wanted to teach, and tutored during my time at high school and university, and found it incredibly rewarding to help teach and inspire students. After teaching abroad, I decided that I wanted to pursue teaching as a full time career.
Why did you choose the School Direct route?
I'd already had a lot of time working in classrooms and found I learnt best through on-the-job experience. Spending more time actively teaching has helped me improve, and prepared me for what to expect in a full time teaching role.
What have you thought about training at The Three Rivers Teaching School?
I've really enjoyed my time training at The Three Rivers. The schools and staff offer incredible support, and my mentor has given me so much advice and feedback to help me work to the best of my ability. Learning and observing outstanding teachers was invaluable during my training year.
What has been the most rewarding part of the year?
Being able to see my students progress and grow throughout the year, and how proud they were with themselves and their achievements by the end of it.
What advice would you give someone who is thinking about going into teaching?
Expect a heavy workload and a new challenge every day, but if you persevere and you're passionate enough, you'll get through it.

Why did you want to come into teaching?
To find a career that helps others.
Why did you choose the School Direct route?
School Direct is structured brilliantly - a gradual handing-over of the role of classroom teacher from your mentor to yourself. By the end of ITT you are fully immersed in the role and really prepared for the challenges of your NQT year.
What has been the most rewarding part of this year?
Developing relationships with my pupils. Following a particular class for most of the school year lets you see the progress the children make over that time.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about going into teaching?
I would tell anyone who wants to go into teaching that they must throw themselves into it and always learn from everything that they do. It is a constant learning journey and you must embrace all the feedback given. I would recommend taking the School Direct route too as you will experience the life of a teacher from the very first day of training.

Why did you want to come into teaching?
I was first inspired to become a teacher based on my time at School. My two Drama teachers made every Drama lesson engaging and a pleasure to attend. I witnessed them create amazing bonds with students as well as guiding them through their GCSE and A-Levels with excellent results. In having the opportunity to be taught by two amazing teachers then inspired me go down the teaching route. I want to inspire students like they did during my time in school.
Why did you choose the School Direct route?
The School Direct route allows you to work within a school environment almost every day which massively appealed to me. I think learning 'on the job' will benefit you so much more than simply attending university. I was able to teach classes independently, mark essays and guide students through their GCSE and A -Levels, something I wouldn't be able to do if I was not on the School Direct route.
What has been the most rewarding part of this year?
Gaining 'outstanding' in my lesson observations. This demonstrates my passion about teaching and my love of the subject I teach. The other most rewarding part of this year has been the relationships I have created with the students. This has made my year so much more enjoyable resulting in behaviour management not being a problem either.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about going into teaching?
Only go into teaching if you are passionate about your subject and the teaching industry overall. Every day is different and there are many stressful moments to the job. You will need perseverance and will power to get through it. You will also need to work well with young children and be able to create positive relationships.
